There is a lot to love about living in Natchez, MS year-round. However, autumn is our favorite season. The weather isn’t too hot, and it isn’t too rainy. Besides beautiful weather, the area has plenty of fall activities to enjoy. Today, we’re highlighting four of our favorites.

Drive on Over: 4 Fall Activities Near Natchez, MS

1. Watching The Great Mississippi Balloon Race

One fall activity worth making the drive to is The Great Mississippi Balloon Race. It is part of the Natchez Balloon Festival, held at Rosalie Mansion and Gardens at 100 Orleans Street on the third weekend of October.

Since 1987, the Historic Natchez Foundation and the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution have worked together to put on this colorful, fun festival, and it features a lot more than just a hot air balloon race. Other highlights include:

  •  Carnival rides
  • Arts and crafts booths
  • An evening balloon glow
  • Live music
  • Hot air balloon flights
  • Fireworks

2. Partaking in the Fall Pilgrimage

We also recommend taking part in the Fall Pilgrimage between September 23 and October 20. There are nine historic buildings that can be toured, including Auburn at 400 Duncan Ave. If you are interested in historic buildings, we urge you to check out this building from roughly 1812. It can only be toured at 2 or 3 on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday during Fall Pilgrimage.

Another popular Fall Pilgrimage stop is Concord Quarters which was constructed around 1819. It is located at 301 Gayosa Ave, and there are tour times between 9 and 12:30 on seven days during Fall Pilgrimage. You can also stay in one of the rooms in Concord Quarters or rent the entire second floor of the bed and breakfast, accommodating up to six guests.

3. Catching the End of the Phatwater Kayak Challenge

Another fun thing to do in Natchez in the fall is to watch the end of the Phatwater Kayak Challenge. This 42.5-mile kayak and canoe race starts at Grand Gulf on the second Saturday of October early in the morning. However, it ends at Natchez Under-the-Hill.

4. Checking Out the Angels on the Bluff Tour

We also recommend checking out the Angels on the Bluff tour by parking at 215 Franklin St. and taking a free shuttle to The Natchez City Cemetery. This beautiful evening walking tour in November features many compelling stories.
